Advertising-Related
Ad Club
Of The Triad
These are nice folks. And they seem to have it together, which
is more than you can say for a lot of ad clubs.
American Institute
Of Graphic Arts, Raleigh Chapter
More nice people. I'm certainly no designer, but they let me hang
out every so often.
Forcefield
Web Development
The hosts of this site. If it loaded up quick and didn't crash
your computer, it's due to their hard work. If it caused you trouble,
it must be something on your end.
Tomas Gardner
I've worked with Tomas for years and he's as good as art directors
get. He's now in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. (He hasn't retired,
just gone freelance.)
Lightspeed
Multimedia Design
The folks at Lightspeed put my site together, and I'll be forever grateful
to them. Go peep at all the nifty stuff they've done.
The Samba
Not technically an Advertising site, but their gallery of Volkswagen
ads and collateral from the DDB days is a must-see.
Mike Sellers
Mike's a freelance art director in Atlanta. He's done some really nice
stuff and won a buncha awards, all without being an ass.
Soundtrax Recording
Studios
The Raleigh ad community's lucky to have Soundtrax. If it's audio, I
can't see why you'd take it anywhere else.

Other Stuff
317X
Boss site featuring all sorts of cool record covers, most from the Fifties
and Sixties. Be sure to scope out I Dig Chicks! by Jonah Jones.
Aircooled
Accessories
Here you'll find some vintage Seventies catalogs for EMPI dress-up and
hop-up VW parts. These are great reference material for restoring an
old Bug. And just plain cool.
American
Widescreen Museum
Ever wondered what the difference was between Technirama and Super Technirama
70? I have. An amazing wealth of technical information about all those
great movie processes.
Marshall
Crenshaw
Crenshaw made some of the most listenable music of the Eighties, and
he's still knocking off great pop songs. He's also a walking encyclopedia
of Rock N Roll.
DoomBuggies.Com
"Your cadaverous palor betrays an aura of forboding..." A
marvelous tribute to the Disney Haunted Mansions. If you can't make
a run through the mansions this week, this is the next best thing.
Bob Dylan
No explanation necessary.
The Ghastly
Ones
They call their music "haunted garage and cemetery surf."
Whatever it is, their monster-themed, mostly-instrumental "A-Haunting
We Will Go-Go" CD is a reverb-drenched masterpiece.
Hot Rods
And Show Cars
Here's the scoop on all those crazy car models, stickers and bubblegum
cards from the Sixties and early Seventies. I was all about this stuff.
Be sure to dig around and find Tom Daniel's Garbage Truck kit, which
came with a mod swinging trio complete with a Go-Go Girl vocalist!?
Odd Rods
Remember these hot rod monster stickers? They were in 7-11 stores everywhere
from 1969-73, and I stuck 'em all over everything. There's now a set
called Hot Rod Super Freaks, drawn by John Detrich (www.jdetrich.homestead.com).
Ed "Big Daddy"
Roth
Big Daddy's gone, but Rat Fink's still a gone gasser. Mooneyes is the
official place to get all your stickers, t-shirts and other junk. The
Saks Fifth Avenue of Dumb.
Shag
Shag is Josh Agle. Some of his art hangs in my office (prints, no originals,
sadly). Shag also played guitar in two of my fave surf/instrumental
combos: The Tiki Tones and The Huntington Cads. Could Shag be the savior
of Popular Culture? I think so.
The Smile
Shop
"Columnated ruins domino." One of the best of the dozens
of hyper-obsessive sites dedicated to Brian Wilson and the unreleased
Beach Boys album Smile. BEWARE: collecting Smile bootlegs is a sickness.
Los Straitjackets
Heir to The Ventures' throne as America's Most Exciting Instrumental
Combo! If these hombres come to your town and you don't go, you're a
sap.
Sundazed Music
Sundazed has reissued some of the greatest music ever, from the super-rare
Save For A Rainy Day by Jan & Dean to the mono version of Bob Dylan's
Bringing It All Back Home. Their boxed set of The Trashmen ("The
bird is the word!") is never far from my CD player.
Tiki News
Otto von Stroheim's tribute to all things Tiki. I've written for this
fanzine, but don't hold that against them.
Where Eagles
Dare
My all-time favorite movie. And two freaks in Sweden created a web site
dedicated to it, which completely renews my faith in the Human Race.
The Wonder
Real neat site all about Television, one of the greatest bands
ever, and leader Tom Verlaine's solo work. All bands should have a site
this nice.
